For millions of Americans, joint pain means more than just discomfort. It can prevent sufferers from doing such common, everyday activities as opening a jar and typing on a keyboard; in extreme cases, even walking becomes difficult and painful. When the joints ache, it doesn’t matter if you’re 35 or 65, it’s hard to be at your best.

Fortunately, it’s possible to promote joint comfort and movement by nourishing and protecting your joints. Here are a few tips

&8226; Daily stretches of each joint–as far as each will go without pain–will help you maintain freedom of motion.

&8226; Keep active to stay active. Strength conditioning and low-impact exercises such as bicycling help maintain and build your mobility.

&8226; Be careful with your hands. Avoid positions that place too much stress on the fingers, such as those that push your other fingers toward your little finger. Finger motions should be in the direction of your thumb whenever possible. And avoid making a tight fist.

&8226; Get a grip. Be aware of how you hold things and the stress you place on your joints when gripping them. Try holding objects in your open palms instead.

&8226; Maintain an optimal weight. When you rid yourself of excess weight, you reduce the pressure on your joints. This means less discomfort, as well as reduced risk for injury.

&8226; Supplement your diet. The combination of glucosamine and chondroitin is frequently recommended to help reduce pain and discomfort. Move Free Advanced combines these supplements with Uniflex&8482; and Joint Fluid&8482;. This new formulation is two times more effective in promoting joint comfort and usually works in as little as one to two weeks.

Why do we need to detox?

Our bodies are able to detoxify chemicals without help. However, many experts believe that the enormous number of chemicals we ingest daily through food, water, and the environment can accumulate.

The buildup, called the toxic burden or body burden, can overwhelm the body’s capacity to detoxify and may lead to hormonal imbalance, nutritional deficiency, and inefficient metabolism

What are the possible side effects of a detox diet?

Some people may experience headache, acne, weight loss, or fatigue during a detox. These symptoms usually diminish after a few days. For this reason, many people take time off work to begin a detox or start the diet on a Friday night.

Remember that your organs will benefit from any kind of rest, so you can always go for an in-between option where you replace your biggest vices with healthier alternatives.

Detox Side Effects

1. Many people experience headaches at the beginning of a detox as their body is coming to terms with the dramatic reduction of its daily poisons. That is why it’s worth cutting down your main vices slowly before you start;

2. Your energy may dip before it rises, so it’s worth starting the programme on a weekend to let your body adjust.

Drink caffeinated beverages?

Most Americans do. And with the stress of our society, it’s hard not to. Even if you’re not ready to quit for good, a spring and fall detox can give your liver a chance to rest from detoxifying all that caffeine every day, and that can have tremendous physical benefits in terms of more energy, better sleep and reduced stress which in turn can also make it possible to cut down significantly on caffeine after your detox.

Fresh Fruit

Enjoy all fresh fruit. Go easy on grapefruit. A compound in grapefruit called naringin can significantly inhibit liver detox enzymes and should be avoided during detox diets.

With so many aspects of a person's daily life being affected by it, one would think that a lack of proper sleep would be a major concern.However,the pressures of the modern world have made it so that people are finding it harder and harder to get enough sleep every day.According to recently concluded research,this may have more drastic effects on a person than was previously believed.

The human body is often cited to be a complex machine, with several subsections that are working in conjunction with one another. As such, it can be seen that there is some truth to the traditional Chinese medicine concept of treating overall balance, rather than individual symptoms. Since all the systems are inevitably interconnected, then what affects one aspect of a person’s physical or mental health can also have an effect other aspects. While everyone and their grandmother knows that disrupting one’s sleep patterns or a lack of sleep can have an effect on the body, new research is revealing that there may be more side effects than conventional knowledge is aware of.

Most people are already aware of the more immediate effects of sleep problems, such as insomnia. There is a noticeable drop in alertness and cognitive ability, which can sometimes appear to be cumulative if the lack of sleep is prolonged. Sensory information can sometimes be processed slower than normal. There are also some studies that point to partial temporary memory loss as an effect. The ability to control body temperature is also disrupted, with some people losing the ability to regulate body heat altogether after prolonged periods with disrupted or broken sleep cycles. Significant lack of sleep has also been known to speed up the aging process of the skin, making a person seem older than they actually are.

However, there are even more problems for those with chronic lack of sleep or broken sleep cycles. According to research recently completed by the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the metabolism of a person may also be subject to side effects of sleep deprivation. There were profound differences in the metabolic rates of the people who were subjected to controlled levels of sleep deprivation. The results showed that glucose tolerance, one of the key indicators used to determine whether someone has diabetes, changed. Rather than showing a normal glucose tolerance for their age, the sleep deprived test subjects exhibited the tolerance of someone in the early stages of diabetes. The results seem to indicate that the body’s ability to metabolize glucose is hampered by sleep debt.

The results suggest that sleep deprivation may play a role in the onset of diabetes, as well as being considered as a possible factor in the statistic rise of people with diabetes in developed countries. Other effects that the study noted included hypertension, more rapid aging of skin cells, a decreased metabolic rate which may lead to obesity, and various memory-related issues. The study was conducted only on a short-term basis for this type of research, lasting only 16 days. It is speculated that the recorded effects can only get worse if the sleep deprivation period was prolonged.

It is notable that, unlike studies that have come before it, this research team was not interested in the cognitive effects. There has always been speculation on the concrete physical effects of a lack of sleep on the body, but there has never been a study dedicated solely to pursuing what those effects are. The study is actually considered rather timely, mainly because most of the working population spends less than the recommended eight hours of sleep. While the difference of eight hours to the average sleep time of five hours may not seem that significant, the results emerged from test subjects who were subjected to just five hours of sleep per 24-hour period.

One of the fastest growing trends in health and fitness today is the use of personal trainers. According to the American Council on Exercise ACE, for the first time, the number of students studying for ACEs Personal Trainer Certification Exam has surpassed that of those studying to be aerobics instructors. Even icons of American culture like Oprah have joined the trend with tremendous results. In 2005 she was selected by CBI Club Business International as Januarys fitness role model of the month. Bob Greene, Oprahs personal trainer in Chicago, was credited with helping her lose 90 pounds and, best of all, with keeping it off.

What is a Personal Trainer
A personal trainer acts as a partner who can help you set up a fitness program that meets your personal wellness goals. He or she informs you on the best exercises for your needs, keeps you motivated and tracks your progress. Many people fail to see results from their workouts because, without guidance, they are staying in their comfort level, using the same equipment and exercises over and over. A personal trainer will push you to try new things and tailor your work out to fit your personal goals.

Exercise
A good personal trainer will assess your physical abilities and discuss your goals before creating an exercise program. Once created, he or she will train you on each exercise and piece of equipment, ensuring that you are using proper form and technique, thus ensuring faster and better results from your efforts.

Motivation
Sticking with an exercise program can be difficult. There are always excuses not to go to the gym, so having someone else vested in your success is a great source of motivation. You know that your time will be well spent because you will be correctly performing your exercises. You may be financially motivated not to miss appointments and thereby lose the cost of a session. Accountability to your trainer will also inspire you to succeed, as a good trainer will monitor your progress and share in your setbacks and your triumphs.

What to Look for in a Personal Trainer

Finding a personal trainer in Chicago can seem like a daunting task. In such a large area it might seem impossible to locate the right person for you; but it does not need to be. Start locally by asking your friends, coworkers or doctor for referrals. Call area gyms and health clubs and set up interviews. You can also use online services such as Personal Trainer Finder or American Council on Exercise. When you have a list of possible choices, sit down with them and ask a few important questions.

Certification and Education
It is very important that your trainer be certified by a reputable fitness organization such as ACE, ACSM or NASM. Check the website or ask for information about the certifying organization. According to American Sports Data, ASD, 5 million Americans used personal trainer services in 2001. At that time there were only 66,000 personal trainers practicing in the country. With such a gap between supply and demand a number of less than reputable web sites have sprung up offering quick certification.
Your trainer should also be certified in CPR, first aid and possibly even Automated External Defibrillation if you have any issues with heart disease.

Experience
In addition to education it is wise to choose someone with experience, particularly if you have specific goals or health issues you wish to address. Find someone who has dealt often with your particular needs. Be it Pre-Natal exercise, heart problems or even just the particular type of exercise you prefer, you want someone knowledgeable in that area.

Personality
Personality is a very subjective factor in who you will select; but it is one of the most important. You are looking for someone who will inspire you and motivate you to continue with your fitness program. It is vital that this person is not someone who is intimidating or even irritating. If you do not like your trainer you will not develop the give and take needed to form a productive team. Your trainer should be a good listener and give you their full attention while during your sessions. He or she should be focused on you, not answering phone calls or chatting with others. Your trainer should be aware of your personal style, some people respond to a drill sergeant approach, but many others prefer firm but patient guidance.

Warning signs
As you begin working with your trainer keep in mind that you are the client. You should be concerned if your trainer ignores or dismisses your questions or neglects any part of a complete program. He or she should not work you too hard. A little muscle soreness is expected but you should not be in real pain or fatigue. A personal trainer should never diagnose injuries or illness, but should refer you to a doctor.

Taking action
Finding a personal trainer in Chicago should not be as daunting as it may seem. Start locally, ask questions, educate yourself on the proper credentials and find a partner who will motivate you and inspire you to your best health and wellness.

Ginseng is a common health drink in China, Korea, and Japan and consumed its distinct flavor and medicinal properties. The word ginseng came from the Chinese term jen-shen, which means, in the image of man. Ginseng refers to a group of herbs from the plant family Araliacae. There are the three main types of ginseng Oriental ginseng Chinese or Korean, American ginseng Panax quinquefolius, and Siberian ginseng Eleutheroccus senticosis. Traditional Chinese medicine says that each type of ginseng has unique healing properties. It contains complex mixtures of carbohydrate compounds, nitrogenous compounds, nitrogenous compounds and other essential vitamins and minerals. Compounds called ginsenosides were identified by many studies as its main active components. Ginsengs have cooling effect, which make it useful for the treatment of fever, respiratory tract disorders, and the improvement of blood circulation. Studies show that ginsenosides, the active ingredient of ginseng, is responsible for the many health benefits of ginseng. For this reason, ginseng is used by people the world over as an alternative medicine.

All over Asia, thousands of people drink the beverage because they believe that ginseng helps

	reduce fatigue and increases stamina;
increase the formation of red blood cells and helps eliminate anemia;
improve mental conditions and helps prevent neuroses;
increase the secretion of body fluids and helps prevent diabetes;
normalize pulmonary functions, preventing coughing, tuberculosis, and asthma;
strengthen the gastrointestinal system and can help facilitate liver regeneration;
detoxify poisons;
enhance blood alcohol clearance;
reduce the effect of alcohol intoxication;
eliminate hangovers; and
treat influenza and other infections.

Ginseng is also used to enhance physical and mental performance. It is often called an adaptogen because it bolsters the body’s ability to combat physical and mental stress. Several studies show that ginseng is able to reduce the levels of fatigue in men and women. Many clinical studies show that people who take ginseng or ginseng supplements were able to overcome higher levels of emotional and physical difficulties. In addition, regular intake of ginseng may reduce one’s chancer of acquiring different types of cancer especially the types that affect the lungs, liver, and ovaries. Reports say that individuals who use ginseng regularly feel better and are more alert. It may also improve one’s memory and other mental faculties. For maximum results, some regular consumers of this herbal beverage include another traditional healing ingredient called gingko biloba.

Impotence is another ailment that can supposedly be treated through regular consumption of ginseng. Ginseng is believed to be effective in helping increase sperm production. It is also taken as a supplement to improve sexual performance. Recent medical studies show that ginseng does enhance libido and sexual performance. Ginseng promotes the release of nitric oxide and improves the blood flow in the penis and, in the process, enhances sexual pleasure and performance.

For centuries, ginseng was used not only as a beverage but also as a tonic to improve sexual performance. Still, more research is needed to fully validate the efficacy of Nature’s wonder root as a medicinal product.

Married life becomes more difficult without a fruitful relationship. And one aspect of a healthy and happy home life is a steaming sex life. But what happens when a woman cannot satisfy her husband?

The one of the most commonly encountered womens sexual health problem is the sexual arousal disorder. It is a condition wherein there is decreased, insufficient, or no lubrication in women during sexual activities and sexual contact. It commonly leads to loss of interest in sex, more commonly in women the farther along they age and when they approach menopause.

Symptoms of arousal disorder may vary with different women. Some may have difficulty getting or staying aroused, some may have problems reaching an orgasm. Some may experience pain during sex or orgasm, and this may interfere with her desire for intercourse. But what causes arousal disorders?

Studies show that a lot of factors contribute to female sexual arousal disorder and female orgasmic disorder. These factors are mainly
Psychological factors. Sexual arousal disorders may have rooted from traumatic events that have happened during a womans childhood and adolescent years. Stress, fatigue, and anxiety may also cause the body to be unresponsive to sexual stimulation. Some women whove recently had uterine and breast operations may develop a poor sexual self-image and also end up drying up during sex. Also, women who feel guilty about having sexual pleasure, have an extreme fear of intimacy may have problems enjoying the sexual act and therefore produce no lubrication in the process.
Physical factors. Medical conditions related to the female reproductive system such as endometriosis growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus, cystitis inflammation or infection of the lining of the urinary bladder, or vaginitis inflammation of the vaginal wall may become a cause for an arousal disorder. Other diseases like diabetes, endocrine or hormone problems, and neurologic disorders can also cause a woman to dry up during sex. Prescription medications like oral contraceptives, tranquilizers, antidepressants, and anti-hypertensives can have side effects that affect a womans response to sexual stimulation. Substance abuse such as alcoholism and drug addiction can make a woman lose sexual desire and drive.

There are a lot of ways to treat the female sexual arousal disorder. If there is an underlying medical condition that causes the disorder, treating it may solve the arousal problem. Sometimes, hormonal treatments using estrogen and low doses of testosterone may raise a womans sex drive and correct her bodys response to sexual stimulation. Ridding yourself of the psychological causes may also improve a womans sexual response. Counseling and psychotherapy can help resolve underlying psychological issues. Relaxation exercises may also relieve the stress thats causing the arousal problem. If medications are causing the dryness, consult your doctor and tell them of what youre experiencing so that they can adjust your medications or change it so that it doesnt interfere with your sex life. For women who do not have problems with sexual arousal but rather only with inadequate lubrication, the use of lubricants and similar products may help. Longer foreplay may also prove beneficial.

You see them gripping on their respective exercise machines…all gritty with determination to lose those extra pounds and build muscles. Instead of taking weight-loss pills they have decided to improve their physique by getting that expensive gym membership where they can workout their way to optimum health. Aside from lifting weights, these gym rats also religiously follow a low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet prepared by their personal trainers and sports nutritionists. Each fitness gym promotes various fitness fads and routines from yoga, pilates, core fitness ball method, tae-bo, pole and belly dancing, and a host of other exercises. Still, the gym members are carefully taught that these exercises can only fully benefit them if they also follow a well-prepared diet. Workouts, they are told, will not work if the weight watcher refuses to limit food intake.

	It is along those lines that diet formulas have gained popularity in the fitness world. One such diet formula is the Atkin’s Diet, undeniably among the most well-known diets that had already gained a strong following. Developed by Dr. Robert Atkins, the diet was first promoted in the 1960s as a solution to the emerging weight problems among many Americans. Considered a high-protein diet, the Atkins’ formula spawned other methods or plans to control food intake. The diet craze gave birth to the Stillman diet in the 1970′s, and the Scarsdale diet in the 1980′s — both of which promised leaner bodies and smaller waistlines.

	Atkins, Stillman, and Scarsdale made similar claims about the benefits of high-protein diets. They said that eliminating or taking minimal amounts of carbohydrates will lead to controlled weight and increased muscle size.

	According to physiologists and diet specialists, muscles literally break down when one works out or exerts physical action. Protein, as a muscle-building substance, is needed to build and re-build the muscles that are in constant daily use. People, especially athletes, who regularly expend large amounts of energy and utilize different muscle groups need regular supply of protein to build or retain muscle mass. Without enough protein in the body, the goal to increase muscle mass cannot be achieved. Additional protein is also needed to develop hard and ripped muscles. Weightlifters, all of whom aim to gain muscle mass, are the foremost followers of these high-protein diets. They are often found gulping protein shakes and consuming lean meat and tuna.

	High protein diets are popular because they initially cause one’s weight to drop. Protein promotes the metabolism of body fat without reducing one’s calorie intake. But doctors also warn that this drop is a reflection of fluid loss and not fat. Recent researches indicate these restrictions on carbohydrate intake coupled with fluid loss may cause an unusual metabolic state called ketosis. In ketosis, the body burns fat for fuel. During ketosis, a person may even feel less hungry and eat less. Still, ketosis has ben associated with health problems such as kidney failure, colon and prostate cancer, and osteoporosis. Ketosis may also cause less serious health problems such as weakness of breath, headaches. diarrhea, sleep difficulties, bone loss, and fatigue. Additionally, some studies claim that high-protein diets may lead to increased lactic acid in the body. Muscle pains according to studies may be experienced due to the increased lactic acid levels in the body.

	However, it is important to point out the importance of protein as part of a healthy diet. Amino acids found in protein are actually the body’s building blocks. These type of acids are responsible for the repair of muscles, red blood cells, and several kinds of tissues. Protein’s primary function is to provide amino acids to maintain an anabolic state. Some health experts believe that the consumption of 20 to 30 percent of calories containing protein per day us the ideal amount. The general rule is for inactive people to consume 0.4 grams grams of protein per one pound of body weight. Active people or those who engage in regular exercise need 0.5 to 0.75 grams of protein per pound of body weight. Athletes, on the other hand, need as much as 0.90 grams.

	A lot of popular low-carb diet books give people the impression that carbohydrates are bad for health. Many researchers claim that high-carbohydrate foods trigger the body to stock excess fat. In reality, carbohydrates must be consumed as fuel for the body. Carbohydrates are the main source of fuel for the human brain, heart, and several organs. Nutritionists believe that carbohydrates should compose 50 to 70 percent of one’s calorie intake. Complex carbohydrates, natural sugars and a fair amount of protein are all necessary to have a health diet. It is also important to avoid the use of over processed sugars. Most complex carbs are low in calories and low in fat and are usually found in beans, whole-wheat pasta, and vegetables.

	Understanding proper nutritional intake can make a difference in people’s health and in the overall quality of their lives. Indeed, good food is the key to a good life!

Some people may have been nursing a broken spine for a long period of time and not even know about it. That back pain may have been due to a fall during any sports activity such as basketball, skiing, horse-back riding or a football game wherein you’ve been misdiagnosed with only a broken right arm. However, after the injured arm heals, there seems to have developed an intense back pain that made regular activities such as sleeping and moving around too difficult to do. The pain goes on and would never seem to leave you. Aside from the stress and agony it brings, chronic pain can lead to other serious medical conditions.
Acute pain is experienced as a direct response to injury or trauma which comes on suddenly and lasts for a limited period of time. The pain is expected to disappear as soon the injury or disease has been treated. Chronic pain, on the other hand, is pain that persists and last for several moths or even years.
The most common types of chronic pain include back pain, headaches, arthritis, cancer pain, and neuropathic pain, all of are related to nerve injury. Health care professionals always see the identification of the source of pain as the first step to treating chronic pain. It shouldn’t be ignored as it could be a symptom of an injury or unknown disease like Fibromyalgia. It is characterized by fatigue and widespread pain in muscles and joints. This condition may be connected to injury, changes in muscle metabolism, or viruses, though the exact cause is unclear.
Physical and emotional effects can be devastating regardless of the type of chronic pain. A patient’s career, family and future may suffer and get ruined. Some people would even commit suicide in order to put an end to chronic pain.
Chronic pain may goes on for weeks, months, or years and may not always respond to treatment. Without relief, or the hope for relief, it can be debilitating and may become the defining factor in patients’ lives. They lose the ability to eat, sleep, work, and function normally.
Pain varies from person to person, thus, treatment is individualized. Providing as much pain relief as possible and improving function is the goal of pain management. People with arthritis may do well with occasional use of an over-the-counter pain reliever, whereas someone else with arthritis may need a prescription pain reliever and regular aerobic exercise to feel good.
There is more to treatment for chronic pain than medication. It can also involve stress relief and relaxation, physical therapy, improved sleep and nutrition habits.
When chronic pain starts to interfere with the quality of one’s life, it is time to seek professional help. Another reason to seek advice from a specialist is if one is experiencing intolerable side effects from medications.
The fear of becoming addicted to pain medications is always the concern of both patients and their doctors. “Most forms of chronic pain respond to non-opioid drug treatments such as pain relievers, which don’t have addiction potential, aspirin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, naproxen, and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. A combination of different types of analgesic medications at lower doses is often more effective than a single high-dose medication.
But in some cases, opioids are prescribed for pain. Opioids are controlled substances that are potentially addictive. But taking doses of opioids to relieve pain as prescribed is not considered as drug addiction. Addiction is the craving for and compulsive use of drugs. On the other hand, physical dependence occurs when a person’s body adapts to the drug. A person who has become physically dependent on a drug must not suddenly stop taking it to avoid withdrawal syndrome. Symptoms can include muscle aches, watery nose and eyes, irritability, sweating, and diarrhea. Physical dependence is considered a normal response to repeated use of opioids and is distinct from psychological addiction.
People suffering from chronic pain need support groups in order to deal with all of the issues regarding chronic pain such as lack of concern, frustration, how to communicate pain to your doctor, and how to maintain relations with your family. Pain may be inevitable, but suffering can be optional.

Regular physical activity and exercise is essential in weight loss, weight control, and improved health. Exercise when incorporated into one’s daily regimen may help reduce heart disease, cancer, certain types of diabetes, and other metabolic conditions. In addition, exercise may also improve brain chemistry and reduce anxiety.

Because of its physical and mental health benefits, many people have incorporated exercise in their lifestyles. However because of money constraints, certain individuals are not able to go to the gym or purchase the necessary equipments. One of the best options these individuals can consider is using a medicine ball and fitness ball. These equipments which has become popular among many health and exercise enthusiasts.

A medicine ball is a heavy exercise equipment, about the size of a basketball or volleyball. This ball is often sold as five to 15 pound balls. This ball is often used for circuit training and plyometrics programs. The weight of the medicine ball allows exercises to be performed in a dynamic manner, or what fitness experts terms as explosive movement. Medicine balls are often used by professional boxers to improve the strength of their abdominal muscles.
