Truth About Low Fat Diets Benefits

Tags: , , , , , , ,

A national study recently revealed telling facts regarding low-fat diets and their benefits relating to cancer and heart disease. A study concluded by the Womens Health Initiative WHI and Stanford University noted that a low-fat diet, alone, is not enough to greatly reduce the risk of heart disease andor cancer in adult women. Researchers have found that a reduction in saturated and trans fats may provide more positive results.

The study showed that women who participate in a low-fat diet experienced a 9 reduction in the development of breast cancer. In addition, no significant changes were noted in the occurrence of heart disease. An impressive 49,000 females, ranging in age from 50 to 79, participated in what is known as the Americas largest long-term study of a low-fat diet to ever be noted. The research was conducted over a period of eight years, in which the experts planned to test the theory that low-fat diets were helpful in reducing the risk of heart disease and cancer.

Among the 49,000 subjects, 40 were assigned to a low-fat diet, which required that they reduce their fat intake to 20 of their total calorie intake. In addition, they were to eat fruits and vegetables on five or more instances throughout the day, along with six servings of grain. The remaining 60 of participants were designated as the comparison group and were instructed to maintain their eating habits as always.

Womens Health Initiative experts, however, noted that a number of low-fat diet participants did not meet the 20 fat intake goal. In a recent news report released from Stanford University, experts conveyed that women who wish to maintain their health should consider a diet that is both low in saturated and trans fats while being rich in fiber and vegetables. This diet would replace one that is geared solely toward the intake of low-fat foods.

Just switching to low-fat foods is not likely to yield much health benefit in most women, commented Marcia Stefanick, PhD, professor of medicine at the Stanford Prevention Research Center and chair of the Womens Health Initiative steering committee. Rather than trying to eat low-fat, women should focus on reducing saturated fats and trans fats.

In addition to any diet program, regular exercise and health screenings should be used for early detection and the most effective treatment.

Stomach Fat Reductions and Scars

Flat abs are much sought after in our image conscious society. Alas, they are hard to get. A stomach fat reduction is ideal for those of us that dont have 10 hours a day to do sit ups.

Stomach Fat Reductions and Scars

Stomach fat reductions, also known as tucks or abdominoplaty, are performed on patients who have done everything that they can to shape their abdominal areas with diet and exercise, but still feel unhappy with the way they look. Two major causes of need for the procedure are pregnancy and aging, both of which cause loss of elasticity in the abdomen. A new development in this area of plastic surgery is an effort to do it without leaving large, prominent scars.

The new reduction procedure is performed for the same reasons and in a similar way to the traditional abdominoplasty. Excess skin and fat are removed from the stomach area, and the muscles in the area are also tightened up. This leaves the stomach with a thinner, more toned appearance.

This particular procedure differs from the usual fat reduction in that the procedure is aimed at leaving no visible scars on the stomach area. In truth, no procedure is completely scarless. This procedure, however, leaves a much smaller, less noticeable scar than traditional ones. A small incision is made vertically across the lower abdomen. Once the procedure is done, the scar is typically covered by underwear or bikini bottoms. The navel belly button does not need to be repositioned, and the procedure takes less time than a traditional open procedure. The surgery works best when the area needing correction is limited to the lower abdomen area. Because the scar is intentionally put below the bikini line, the procedure is inadequate at dealing with problems areas high on the abdomen.

There is one other alternative you should consider. The endoscopic fat reduction surgery involves the placement of small surgical instruments into the area through very tiny punctures in the skin. The procedure is an effective way to remove fatty cells throughout the abdomen. It is not, however, an option if the surgery requires the removal of excess skin in the area. In such a situation, you will be required to undergo a more invasive surgery.

Obviously, everyone would like to choose a procedure that leaves no scars if they have the choice. The choice, however, is one that must be made in consultation with your plastic surgeon. There may be medical reasons that limit you to a particular type of procedure and your physician can advise you on those situations.

I am sure that most people realise that there are many benefits of exercising on a regular basis, most of these people however still choose not do so. This article gives information on how our health can benefit from this exercise which hopefully will encourage more people to start.

I am one of the many people who basically finds it hard to gain any inspiration to exercise. I have over the past couple of years started a fitness routine and have not only enjoyed itto my surprise but have never felt so healthy.

It is a strange situation, the thought of starting the exercise is like a choir, but afterwards I feel brilliant. Despite this, I then find it hard to begin to exercise again on the next day. It is weird!

The benefits of exercise

Helps to lower levels of stress

Helps to improve posture

Helps people to sleep

Helps you to gain stronger muscles

Increases heart and lung efficiency

Lowers the risk of heart disease and lung disease

Helps overall circulation

Helps to reduce blood pressure

Helps people to lose weight

Helps to reduce depression

Helps to reduce cholesterol levels

Helps to reduce symptoms of arthritis

As you can see in the above the list, there are many reasons as to why people should start to exercise. These are only a few out of many health benefits I could mention.

On a personal front, I have found that by exercising on most days, helps me to manage my stress levels. I am by nature a person who is quite anxious and even paranoid, exercising helps me to manage this negative part of my brain and helps me to see things in a much clearer way.

I am also somebody who basically loves food. This exercise is a great way of keeping my weight down, a form of diet which lets me eat exactly what I want.

Depression has been a regular feature of my life, however since starting my fitness regime, I do not think I have been depressed once.

Even though the thought of this exercise does not exactly fill me with joy, I will continue to force myself to do it as the benefits are huge.

I would strongly advise other people to also start exercising. I hope that they find it as rewarding and beneficial as I have.
